MANILA - Sen. Leila de Lima on Thursday visited her ailing 86-year-old mother in Iriga City after being granted a 48-hour furlough.
De Lima arrived in their family's ancestral house past 7 a.m. to visit her mother, Norma Magistrado de Lima, who suffers from dementia.
The senator's mother was confined to the hospital over the weekend but was released Wednesday.
Relatives of the senator said they have prepared a small gathering for De Lima's visit since her detention over drug-related charges in February 2017.
De Lima has denied the allegations and said her drug cases are due to her being an outspoken critic of President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs.
