MANILA (UPDATE) -- Over 2,000 lotto kiosks and other gaming outlets were shut down by the police in the Southern Tagalog Region on Saturday.

This after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the suspension of gaming schemes under the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

A total of 2,531 gaming outlets have been shut down in the Calabarzon region, data from Police Lt. Col. Luis Maria Pascual showed.

Cavite province had the most number of stores closed at 334 lotto outlets and 1,300 small town lottery kiosks.

Gaming outlets were also closed in the provinces of Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,211 PCSO gaming outlets were also shut down in Metro Manila.

A report by the Metro Manila police showed that Manila City had the most number of outlets closed at 486 followed by Quezon City at 376, and Caloocan City at 266.

Duterte gave law enforcers 24 hours starting July 27 to stop the gaming activities operated, licensed and franchised by PCSO due to alleged "massive corruption" in the agency.
