MANILA - A new low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted off Quezon, which will further enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, the state weather bureau said Friday afternoon.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said the LPA was spotted 80 kilometers east-northeast of Infanta, Quezon.

The trough of the LPA will bring light to moderate rains over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Bicol region.

Mindoro and northern Palawan will experience moderate and at times heavy rains due to the trough of the LPA.

Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected over Visayas and the rest of Palawan due to the southwest monsoon and the LPA.

The rest of Luzon, particularly northern Luzon, will experience generally fair weather with isolated thunderstorms.

Some areas suspended Friday classes because of the inclement weather.
