MANILA - Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Friday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a parallel investigation into the killing of Negros Oriental lawyer Anthony Trinidad.

This after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered law enforcement to investigate the lawyer's killing.

"No other specific instructions except to get the killers," Guevarra told reporters.

Trinidad was shot dead while his wife was wounded in an attack by motorcycle-riding assailants in Guihulngan City. The couple were on their way home from a hearing in neighboring La Libertad town.

An Inquirer report said Trinidad had been receiving death threats after being tagged as a supporter of the rebel group.
