DAVAO CITY—All eyes will be on President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 22 as he delivers his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
But 2 of his children—Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte—will be missing the gathering at the Batasang Pambansa.
Sara said she is on a medical leave.
"I am on a special medical leave for 60 days. Its a gyne (gynecological) condition," she said in a text message to ABS-CBN News.
Meanwhile, Baste would not attend his father's SONA because of a regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Davao.
"Diri nalang ko. Tan-aw nalang ko sa TV," he said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
(I'll just stay here [in Davao City.] I'll watch it on television.)
Last year, members of the first family were present during the ceremony.
