MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte visited wounded soldiers in Jolo, Sulu on Monday, Malacañang said.

Duterte also addressed troops in the province, his spokesman Harry Roque said.

"I confirm that PRRD had just left Jolo, Sulu where he addressed the troops and visited wounded soldiers," the Palace spokesman said on Monday afternoon.

As of posting time, the Palace has yet to release more details of the visit, which was Duterte's first to the province since policemen in Sulu shot dead four soldiers last June 29.

On July 3, Duterte addressed soldiers in Zamboanga City to ease tensions between the military and police.

Police initially said the incident in Sulu was a misencounter, but the military described it as a "murder" and a "rubout."

The National Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
