MANILA - More than 1,400 individuals are still stranded in Metro Manila amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

In a public briefing streamed early Wednesday, Año said that a total of 1,476 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) are still under the care of government until they get to go home.

"Ito po ay inaaruga natin at binibigyan po natin ng pagkain at maayos na tutulugan," he said.

More than 7,000 LSIs in Metro Manila have been sent home to their provinces under the government's "Hatid Tulong" program.

Año said 4,180 stranded persons were able to go home to their respective families on July 4-5 while 3,820 were able to go home on July 6-7.

The Cabinet official said the LSIs' destinations were Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula and Soccsksargen.

An official of the government's "Hatid Tulong" program earlier said thousands of stranded individuals are still awaiting transportation.

Under government protocols, stranded individuals are subject to rapid antibody testing and a medical assessment before they are allowed to travel back to their hometown.
