MANILA—A Cabinet revamp may be in the offing amid President Rodrigo Duterte's disappointment in certain members of his official family, a source told media on Monday.

Among those being reportedly reviewed is Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, who recently hogged headlines over his response on the Reed Bank incident where a Philippine fishing boat was rammed by a suspected Chinese maritime militia vessel.

He also drew flak when the country grappled with rice shortage in 2018.

The source said Finance Secretary Sonny Dominguez made the recommendation to Duterte to transfer Piñol, as the chief executive conducts assessment of his secretaries and other high-ranking officials midway his term.

“Ang pinaka-importante sa kaniya 'yung ma-maintain 'yung performance niya kasi ngayon ang ganda ng acceptability ng tao sa administration niya as a whole. Gusto niya isustain 'yun,” the source told reporters.

The source said the President felt some Cabinet members are not meeting his expectations.

Announcements could be made before the President delivers his next State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The source added that Piñol could be transferred to the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).

ABS-CBN News reached out to Piñol for comment, but did not get a response. — with reports from RG Cruz and Dharel Placido, ABS-CBN News
