Sereno walang direktang sagot kung sasabak na sa politika

Inakusahan ng napatalsik na si Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno ang Kamara ng panggigipit sa budget ng hudikatura kapalit ng paglabas ng mga dokumentong ginamit sa impeachment complaint laban sa kaniya.

Ipinadaan umano ang mensahe ni House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez kina House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas at Justice Diosdado Peralta bago makarating kay Supreme Court spokesperson Theodore Te.

"The message was clear: The House leadership was going to hold hostage the judiciary's budget unless the Supreme Court cooperated fully with its plan to remove me," ani Sereno sa isang pagtitipon sa University of the Philippines-Bahay ng Alumni.

Agad namang pinabulaanan ni Fariñas ang alegasyon ni Sereno at tinawag itong "crazy" o kabaliwan.

"The statement of Atty. Maria Lourdes Sereno sounds cunningly crazy even from her! First, her statement is quadruple hearsay," ani Fariñas.

Wala pang tugon ukol dito si Alvarez.

Gayunman, matigas ang paninindigan ni Sereno sa mga binitiwang akusasyon.

"Dapat tanggapin ni Majority Floor Leader Fariñas na maraming nakatestigo doon sa sinabi niya kay Justice Peralta, hindi niya puwedeng matanggi 'yon na ginawa niya talaga 'yon at sinabi niya 'yon, maraming nakaalam no'n," sabi ni Sereno sa panayam sa TV Patrol.

"Hindi ako aatras doon sa paninindigan ko na talagang ginawa niya 'yon."

Dumepensa rin si Sereno sa reklamong dinala niya sa publiko ang mga merito ng noo'y gumugulong na quo warranto laban sa kaniya.

Kinuwestiyon kasi ng ilang mahistrado sa Korte Suprema ang pagharap sa media ni Sereno upang talakayin ang kaso at ang aniya'y "bias" ng anim na hukom na nauna niya nang hiniling na mag-inhibit sa kaniyang kaso.

"Ngayon ipinagtanggol ko sarili ko. Nagbigay ako ng response sa show-cause order, sinabi ko na kahit sino'ng inaakusahan ay may karapatang ipagtanggol ang sarili niya," ani Sereno.

"Sila nga na nag-akusa sa'kin, hindi umatras sa pagiging husgado ko which is a very basic violation of our rules of judicial conduct."

SASABAK SA POLITIKA?

Hindi direktang sinagot ni Sereno nang tanungin siya kung sunod niya nang papasukin ang politika matapos ibasura ng Korte Suprema ang apela niya sa quo warranto petition na nagpatalsik sa kaniya sa puwesto.

"Kailangang pag-isipan nang husto [ang pagpasok sa politika]. Ang focus ng aking energy ngayon ay ipagsama-sama lahat ng Pilipinong gustong magsalita ukol sa panganib sa demokrasya," ani Sereno.

"Hindi ko minamadali ang aking pasya. Sa kalaunan, ang tamang panahon ay darating din ang tamang pasya."

Natalo man sa inihaing motion for reconsideration sa Korte Suprema, tila victory party ang sumalubong kay Sereno sa University of the Philippines-Bahay ng Alumni kung saan nagtipon ang ilan niyang supporters.

"So, I stand before you now, stripped of my authority and my position by an unjust decision. But I do not have to be Chief Justice to defend our laws and institutions. I live the law, as do all Filipinos who uphold the dignity of every fellow Filipino," ani Sereno.

Ayon naman kay Vice President Leni Robredo, kailangang ipaglaban ang demokrasya sa kabila ng galit at hinagpis ng pagkakatanggal kay Sereno.

"But in our rage and grief, we cannot give in to despair, for this is but one of the many battles that we must fight for our democracy, and for the people it is intended to serve," pahayag ni Robredo.

Nagpaabot naman ng suporta ang ilang opisyal at sectoral groups.

"Ito ay isang maitim na pahina sa kasaysayan ng Korte Suprema," ani Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate.

Para kay Senador Antonio Trillanes, nagtagumpay si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na sirain ang Korte Suprema.

"Duterte, once again, succeeded in destroying another bulwark of our fragile Democracy, the Supreme Court. Now, only half of the Senate stands in his way from completely installing his ruthless and corrupt authoritarian regime," ani Trillanes.

Balak naman ng ilang mambabatas na sampahan ng impeachment complaint ang mga mahistradong bumoto para patalsikin si Sereno sa puwesto.

Gayunman, tanggap na ng mga kongresistang nagtulak sa impeachment laban kay Sereno ang desisyon sa quo warranto.

"Our Constitution mandates the Supreme Court to be the final arbiter of legal and constitutional questions. Let us respect its decision, no matter what our persuasions are," ani Alvarez.

"I felt so relieved that I need not prepare anymore on the Senate trial. The country will be spared of the very divisive issue," ani Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali na chairman ng House justice committee.

Sabi naman ni impeachment complainant Lorenzo Gadon, walang ibang dapat sisihin si Sereno kundi ang sarili niya.

Pero sinisi din niya si dating Pangulong Noynoy Aquino dahil may iba pa umanong mga mahistradong mas kalipikado kay Sereno.

"Sereno only has herself to blame... I believe however that Benigno S. Aquino also has to share the blame because there were other more qualified nominees whose qualifications are beyond doubt," ani Gadon.

Iginagalang din ng Malacañang ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema sa apela ni Sereno.

"Malinaw ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema. Ang Korte Suprema ang pinal na arbiter," ani presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

"Tapos na ang pagiging Chief Justice ni Meilou Sereno. We wish her good luck in her everyday life as a private citizen," aniya.
