BATANGAS - The mayor of Balete town in Batangas was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman Saturday morning, police said.

Mayor Joven Hidalgo was gunned down in Barangay Poblacion in Balete around 10 a.m., said Senior Supt. Nerwin Ricohermoso, public relations officer of the Batangas police.

Hidalgo was watching a basketball game at a court beside the police station when he was killed.
