MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte visited soldiers wounded in a firefight with Abu Sayyaf terrorists in Jolo, Sulu.

Duterte, together with Defense Chief Delfin Lorenzana, checked on 15 wounded soldiers at the Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo, Sulu, Tuesday.

The President led the awarding of medals to military personnel and donning of ranks to Brig. Gen. Divino Rey Pabayo of Joint Task Force-Sulu and Brig. Gen. Andres Centino of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Operations.

Duterte conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the Rank of Kampilan on 11 soldiers wounded during the May 31 encounter with the Abu Sayyaf Group at Barangay Pansul, Patikul, Sulu.

The recipients of the Order of Lapu-Lapu were Cpl. Arsenio Opaco Jr., Cpl. Sonny Jumoc, Pfc. Edwin Yurong, Pfc. Edeson Alom, Pfc. Abduhasad Baladji, Pcf. Joevertt Ramirez, Pvt. Dominic Osorio, Pvt. Jeric Peñaredondo, Pvt. Raymund Balambao, Pvt. Ramil Diaz Jr., and Pvt. Albert Daligdig.


The Order of Lapu-Lapu with Kampilan Rank medal is awarded to Filipinos who were seriously wounded, injured or suffered great loss of property as a direct result of their participation in an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.

Seven soldiers meanwhile were conferred with a Gold Cross medal while 5 enlisted personnel received food packs from the President in a ceremony.
