MANILA – The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde said Saturday that it will hold a series of online lessons on basic Filipino sign language (FSL).

The learning sessions will be taught on Facebook Live through the page of Benilde’s School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies starting May 30, the college said in a Facebook post.

While the lessons are free, the school encouraged participants to donate for the #SignForSigns fundraising campaign.

“A minimum contribution of P350 will give you access to an FSL Learning Kit, which you can use to continue learning sign language at home,” Benilde said in the post.

The campaign intends to raise funds for deaf students who are stranded in dormitories, indigent deaf scholars who need to return to their provinces after the extended lockdown is lifted, and faculty who are on a “no work, no pay” scheme, Benilde said.

Benilde added that the funds would also support the FSL Access Team for COVID-19, who serve as interpreters in broadcast news programs during the pandemic.
