MANILA — The sudden turnaround of the man who claimed to be the hooded figure "Bikoy" was a product of Malacanang's "wild imagination," an opposition senator said Thursday.

"This is fanciful and another attempt by this administration to distract the public. Just like the President's matrices, it is another product of Malacanang's wild imagination," Sen. Risa Hontiveros said in a statement.

She was reacting to the latest revelation of Peter Joemel Advincula, who said that the claims featured in the "Ang Totoong Narco-list" videos were all lies "orchestrated" by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and other personalities affiliated with the Liberal Party (LP).

Advincula surrendered to police and held a press conference Thursday, where he recanted his earlier accusations linking the family of President Rodrigo Duterte to the narcotics trade.

Davao Representative-elect Paolo Duterte said Trillanes and Hontiveros should be probed over their alleged involvement in the production of Bikoy videos.

Paolo was among the president's kin implicated in the Bikoy videos.

But Hontiveros said she found this "absurd."

"I find it odd that when 'Bikoy' came out with his videos accusing [Duterte], his family and close political friends of links to illegal drugs, this administration was quick to shoot down his credibility...And now, when he sings a different song and accuses the opposition of outlandish things, all of a sudden his credibility is restored? How absurd," Hontiveros said.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, the Malacañang will simply "wait" for Advincula to produce evidence to substantiate his claims.

"People will always deny. We'd have to wait for Advincula to substantiate his charges. After that, let's see. If there are charges to be filed in court, then the truth will come out... We will just watch and look for whatever development," he said.
