MANILA- "Give us space."

This was the appeal of Senator Nancy Binay to critics of their family following a dramatic sibling rivalry that eclipsed their respective election bids.

"Ang pakiusap ko na lang give us space. Give us time na magkaayos-ayos kami kasi tapos na yung eleksyon eh pero yung intriga between us, sa aming magkakapamilya ayaw tigilan," she told reporters Thursday.

(My only appeal is to give us space. Give us time to patch things up because the elections are over but the controversy between us in our family persists.)

Four members of the Binay dynasty ran for different elective posts for the midterm elections.

Nancy sought reelection for senator while her father, former vice president Jejomar Binay Sr. ran for a congressional seat for Makati City's 1st district.

Nancy's younger siblings Abby and Junjun meanwhile tussled it out for the mayoral post of the family bailiwick in a sibling rivalry that left the family divided.

The Binay patriarch, who lost this election, backed the campaign of Abby who won her mayoral reelection bid. Nancy, who is clinging to the 12th spot in the senatorial race, meanwhile supported Junjun.

"I have to admit sobrang strained ng relationship naming magkaka-pamilya," Nancy said.

"Di ko alam bakit may ops na paghiwalayin kaming pamilya," she added.

(There are operations to tear our family apart.)

Nancy also dismissed rumors that her brother Junjun withdrew his support for their father at the last minute.

"Parang may push na hindi kami pag-ayusin na magkaka-pamilya," she said.

(It's like there's a force to preventing our family from patching things up.)

"I mean I have to admit nagkaroon ng lamat yung relationship ko with my father," she added.

(I have to admit my relationship with my father was strained.)

While Abby shunned any possible reconciliation between the Binay siblings, Nancy said she remains open to patching things up within their family.

"Tapos na yun eh so kailangan magsama-sama na kami ulit," she said.

(That's done so we need to unite again.)
