P12 million vote-buying money confiscated in midterm polls: PNP

MANILA - Authorities confiscated some P12 million from vote-buying and selling incidents during the midterm elections.

Based on Philippine National Police data, the amount totaled P12,208,958 nationwide.

Caraga region had the highest amount involved in vote-buying and selling incidents with P7,976,100.

According to Police Brig. Gen. Gilberto Cruz, regional director of Caraga, P7 million was confiscated in two vote-buying incidents.

“May na-search warrant kami, dalawang kandidatong mayor, tapos yung isa nakakuha ng P2 million, yung isa nasa P5 million naman. May paraphernalia doon, sample ballots, nakasobre na, iaabot na lang. Nakaporma na, ipina-pack na nila,” Cruz said.

Northern Mindanao recorded 9 vote buying/selling incidents with P1,125,718 recovered.

Ilocos Region had 17 incidents with P561,000 recovered.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila police arrested 136 suspects involved in vote buying/selling.
