MANILA—Benjamin Magalong won the Baguio City mayoralty, based on results Monday night.

The retired police general garnered 41,207 votes, beating Edison Bilog (22,609).

Magalong, a former chief of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police, spearheaded the PNP's investigation on the Mamasapano clash, which led to the death of 44 Special Action Force members.

He retired in 2016, and was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as board member of the state-owned Philippine National Oil Co. in 2018.
