MANILA - PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Benjamin Magalong on Monday presented a detailed timeline of what went wrong in the Mamasapano operation that left 44 police commandos dead.
In his presentation, Magalong said the 84th Seaborne Special Action Force, which was designated as the main effort to arrest Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, was already delayed by two hours due to the difficult terrain and strong river current near the target.
He also noted that except for the Seaborne unit, "the other units did not reach their designated positions."
"There is a gap from the plan and the actual," he said.
The Senate began today its probe on the Maguindanao clash that left 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force dead.
The elite commandos were killed during an operation to capture international terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan.
