Thousands of people attend PDP-Laban’s miting de avance at Philippine Sports Complex in Pasig City, May 11, 2019

MANILA — Senatorial bets of the administration's political party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Saturday made their final push to seek the favor of voters in a miting de avance held at the packed Philippine Sports Complex in Pasig City.

The huge rally had the party lay down its platforms, primarily to continue President Rodrigo Duterte’s crackdown on drug crime and corruption, for a chance for bigger voter awareness for one last time after a surely exhausting 3-month campaign period.

PDP-Laban members, which they call MaBaGoKoTo, include former top cop Bato Dela Rosa, Duterte’s close aide Bong Go, Maguindanao congressman Dong Mangudadatu, senator Koko Pimentel, and former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino.

“Alam ko po sawang sawa na kayo sa amin,” Go told the audience. “Maraming maraming salamat po sa pagsama niyo sa amin sa 88 araw po.”

(I know you have been really tired of us already. Thank you so much for being with us in the past 88 days.)

He dished out his pledges to build healthcare and social service facilities, but ended with a note: “Hindi ako nangangako sa inyo na kaya kong gawin lahat iyan.”

(I do not promise that I can do all of that.)

Other guest candidates include singer Freddie Aguilar, former cabinet secretary Raffy Alunan, Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos, former senator Pia Cayetano, and re-electionists Sonny Angara, JV Ejercito, and Cynthia Villar.

“Hindi po madaling mangampanya sa buong bansa,” Angara said, thanking the party for accepting them. His voice was already tired.

(It is not easy to campaign in the whole country.)

At the venue were thousands of people swooning over dancing and singing candidates with guest celebrities. They enjoyed giveaways such as t-shirts, ballers, posters, and small calendars, among other campaign paraphernalia.

In a chance interview with reporters, party president Pimentel said the ruling party’s senatorial ticket committed mistakes during the campaign, but still turned out to be successful.

“Hindi perfect ‘yung campaign namin. Lahat naman tayo nagkakamali. Acceptable naman lahat ng aming mga pagkakamali. So this has been a reasonable and successful campaign,” he said.

(Our campaign was not perfect. Everyone of us makes mistakes. All our mistakes were acceptable.)
