Welcome to the Philippine National Police Academy.

350 new recruits trooped to their new home in Camp Castañeda in Silang, Cavite Monday to begin their 4-year training and education to become police officials.

Parents and relatives of the recruits were on hand to witness the academy's welcoming ceremonies.

Part of the tradition included upperclassmen swarming around the plebes, screaming at the new recruits and ordering them to perform intense physical activities.

The recruits were also instructed to wave their hands at their parents to bid them farewell before getting their heads shaved.

One of the new recruits is Rock dela Rosa, the only son of National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa. The younger Dela Rosa did not get any special treatment as a plebe. The country's top cop did not attend the ceremonies but his wife and one of his daughters were on hand for the farewell.

The PNP Chief had earlier expressed reservations about his son entering the academy.

"Proud. Pero bilang ama, kinakabahan din. Makakaya ba niya ang training… Physically, kayang-kaya niya. Malakas yun e. Pero yung
psychological, I don't know. Iba siya, iba ako. Ako, anak ako ng
tricycle driver. Kahit babagsakan mo ako ng shotput sa tiyan ko, hindi ako uuwi ng Davao. Pero anak siya ng chief PNP," Dela Rosa said.
