MANILA -- Washington on Friday donated 1,300 new cots to the Philippines to help its treaty ally fight the coronavirus disease pandemic, the US Embassy in Manila said.

US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim turned over the cots to Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr and Office of Civil Defense Administrator Ricardo Jalad.

As of Thursday, the Philippines confirmed 4,076 COVID-19 cases including 203 deaths and 124 recoveries. Luzon, home to half of its 100 million population, is on lockdown until April 30 to fight the spread of the disease.
