MANILA — The Medical City urged incoming patients Monday to seek medical attention elsewhere as it admitted that the hospital "can no longer provide your loved-ones the care that they need" due to the number of coronavirus-striken patients under its care.

In a statement, the Pasig City-based medical facility said it has 64 persons under investigations (PUI) and 18 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive cases admitted in its ward and intensive care unit as of Monday.

The Medical City, one of the premier health institutions in the country, also revealed that 137 of its frontline workers are in quarantine after being exposed to coronavirus patients.

"Clearly, we already exceeded our capacity. Our frontline healthcare workforce is already overstretched as 137 of them are in quarantine. Unless we are able to move the new patients to other hospitals, our healthcare delivery system is going to break down," the hospital said.

It said that initiatives to look for other hospitals "is appreciated."

"We do not wish at all to turn you away, but the reality is that we can no longer provide your loved-ones the care that they need," it said.

The Philippines' health department reported Monday the largest number so far of new COVID-19 cases in a single day at 82, raising the country's total tally to 462.

It also said that 8 more patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 33. The number of patients who recovered stood at 18.
