Clashes between the military and Dawlah Islamiyah have been ongoing in nearby Pagayawan town for the past four days.

According to the military, remaining members of the group hid in Pagayawan after clashing with government troops in January.

Dawlah Islamiyah is headed by Abu Dar, the remaining leader of the Maute group.
