Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has decided not to run for a seat in Congress in next year's election.
President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter announced her decision on Sunday during a gathering of pro-administration supporters in Hong Kong.
Duterte-Carpio instead endorsed Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano and Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux "Mocha" Uson as Senate bets.
Duterte-Carpio and other administration allies went to Hong Kong over the weekend to personally thank overseas Filipino workers who voted for Duterte during the 2016 presidential elections.
Duterte-Carpio's brothers, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Sebastian, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and his wife Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, Transportation spokesperson Karen Jimeno, and Kapamilya actor Robin Padilla also attended the overseas event.
Tapang at Malasakit, in their Facebook page said, over 6,000 Filipinos gathered in General Post Office in Central, Hong Kong.
Last week, Duterte-Carpio launched Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional party that is expected to go against House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez's regional slate in the upcoming 2019 polls.
Duterte-Carpio earlier said HNP was independent of the ruling PDP-Laban, but also has the blessing of the President.
