Duterte picks Army colonel as next PSG commander

MANILA (UPDATE) - President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Col. Jesus Durante as the next commander of his close-in security detail, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed Monday.

Durante replaces Brig. Gen. Jose Niembra as head of the Presidential Security Group.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw Diwa” Class of 1992, Durante is the fourth PSG commander under Duterte.

Niembra, meanwhile, will become head of the Philippine Army’s 701st Kagitingan Brigade in Mati City, Davao Oriental, according to PSG spokesperson Capt. Zeerah Blanche Lucrecia.
