MANILA - The Bureau of Immigration arrested Monday a Chinese man who spat on a Manila traffic enforcer who apprehended him for violating traffic rules.

Zhou Zhiyi, 50, was detained for violating the Philippine Immigration Act after he was granted bail by the court for traffic violation, according to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

Zhiyi, who was allowed in the country as a tourist for 30 days last November, will be charged for "overstaying and being an undesirable alien," said BI acting intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr.

The suspect earlier this month refused to stop his car when he was apprehended by traffic enforcers for violating the number coding scheme.

When he was caught, he spat on a police officer which led to his arrest and a search of his car that yielded a sachet of shabu.
