MANILA (3rd UPDATE) — Fire hit an auto shop along the southbound lane of EDSA in Mandaluyong City on Monday, stalling traffic in the major thoroughfare.

The fire that hit Autoplus Car Center, located along EDSA's southbound lane near Connecticut Street, started at around 11:15 a.m. and reached second alarm, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The fire was declared out as of 12:38 p.m.

Earlier videos sent by Bayan Patrollers showed black smoke engulfing the car repair center.

Authorities have yet to determine what caused the fire but huge damage cost was expected.

Senator JV Ejercito said his Toyoto Sequioa was among those that burned down.

"I feel sad, my car for the past 10 years, my Toyota Sequioa burned in the fire at Autoplus Car Center this morning," he said in a tweet.

Authorities advised motorists to avoid the southbound lane of EDSA as the fire stalled traffic along the highway.
