MANILA- Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tuesday said he is still keen on having the Senate investigate the alleged hidden wealth of President Rodrigo Duterte.

This, despite Solicitor General Jose Calida's remarks that the Senate should no longer look into Duterte's alleged hidden wealth since the Office of the Ombudsman has already terminated the investigation on the case.

Calida had alleged that Trillanes, who earlier lodged a complaint against Duterte at the Office of the Ombudsman, has "garbage" evidence.

"If what I have is nothing but garbage, then why are they panicking? And why can't Mr. Duterte just accept my challenge for him to sign a waiver and if I am wrong in my allegations then I would resign immediately as senator and voluntarily walk-in any jail of his choice," Trillanes said.

Malacañang previously said that Duterte "has nothing to hide."

Trillanes said he will seek the permission of Sen. Richard Gordon, chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, to have Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero handle the investigation.

Escudero chairs the Senate Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies.

Trillanes added that he could also ask permission to form a subcommittee so that he can handle the investigation on his own.

Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto noted that Trillanes can proceed with the investigation if Gordon greenlights it. -report from Sherrie Ann Torres, ABS-CBN News
