Officials from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) have trooped to the barangay hall of Ermita, Cebu City to personally serve a suspension order for Barangay Captain Felicisimo Rupinta and his seven councilors.

The suspension stemmed from a complaint filed by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 7 after the barangay officials allegedly refused to serve as witnesses in a drug raid on a "shabu tiangge" in November 2016.

The barangay is known to be drug-infested, according to authorities.

Rupinta angrily accepted the suspension order. DILG Cebu City officials said they have yet to identify who will run the barangay while Rupinta and the other officials are suspended.

They are also waiting for information from the Office of the President, which will decide on the matter.

Among those tapped by Cebu City Tomas Osmeña to run the barangay's affairs are former councilor Jun Pe, Tejero Barangay Councilor Jessielou Cadunggog, and SPO1 Adonis Dumpit.

The Office of the Mayor will temporarily oversee the barangay operations.
