MANILA, Philippines – Phoenix forward Willie Wilson captured the PBA Player of the Week nod for the period of January 22-28 after his outstanding performance in the Fuel Masters' upset of Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Although the Gin Kings were playing without Greg Slaughter and Joe Devance, Wilson still had to contend with a formidable Ginebra frontline including Japeth Aguilar, Raymond Aguilar, and Jervy Cruz.

The 37-year-old Wilson showed that he was up to the task as he made all seven of his field goals and finished with 19 points off the bench.

He was at his best in the middle quarters, scoring 14 points to help Phoenix turn a tight contest into a comfortable 49-29 lead.

It was enough cushion for the Fuel Masters to withstand Ginebra's rally in crunch time.

It was an all-around effort for Wilson, as he also grabbed five rebounds and added two assists and two steals in just 25 minutes off the bench.

Thanks in part to Wilson's efforts, Phoenix improved to 3-3 in the All-Filipino Cup.

Wilson beat teammate Jeff Chan, Rain or Shine guard Maverick Ahanmisi, Alaska's Chris Banchero and Vic Manuel, Magnolia guard Mark Barroca, San Miguel's June Mar Fajardo, Ginebra's LA Tenorio, and GlobalPort's Jonathan Grey and Kelly Nabong.

Phoenix shoots for its fourth win and firm up its playoff drive when it faces Alaska on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
