MANILA- Senator Francis Escudero reminded the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday to provide enough armchairs for left-handed students in public schools.

Escudero, who chairs the Senate Committee on Education, Arts, and Culture, made the comment during the discussion of a House and Senate bill " “mandating public and private educational institutions to provide the appropriate armchairs to left-handed students.”

“If they (DepEd) are ordering now 30,000 new chairs, isn’t it proper that they should already include left-handed armchairs?" the senator said.

At present, only two left-handed armchairs are provided for every 45 students, according to DepEd Senior Education program officer Magdalena Portia Cariaga.

In the event that no left-handed armchairs are available, Escudero urged the DepEd to provide "neutral desks" to help left-handed students who are having difficulties using right-handed armchairs.
