Some animals rescued from areas affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano are suffering from irritated eyes, skin, and colds due to the ash being spewed by the volcano since Sunday.

Three kittens, three puppies, and one dog were brought by a rescue group to an animal shelter in Capas town, Tarlac so they can be nursed back to good health.

“’Yung ashfall has bad effects sa dogs, lalo sa respiratory part ng kanilang body. Some cat[s], sinisipon, inuubo. And then 'yung kanilang eyes, irritated,” said Christian Bondoc, lead volunteer of Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) said.

“Pwedeng nagko-cause yung ash sa skin irritation nila,” added Gerlyn Sirapio, AKF’s vet technician.

AKF said the rescued animals are not yet up for adoption, since some of them may have owners.

The group is preparing a database that will contain the location and date of each animal’s rescue. It will be posted on their social media page.

“All these animals are not for adoption at the moment. They still need to be checked, kailangan sila maging healthy. Later on magkakaroon ng documentation kung saan sila narescue, kailan sila narescue, so owners can reunite with them kapag ok na yung condition ng owners,” Bondoc said.

The group also welcomes donations of food and medicines for the rescued animals.
