DAVAO CITY – At least one person was killed and three wounded in a stabbing incident here, early on Saturday.

Driver Dante Naresma, 20, died from multiple wounds after being stabbed in different parts of his body in Barangay Bunawan.

Manuel Maniba, 18, and a man identified as "Ricky," 17, sustained stab wounds in the arms and body. They were aided by the city's emergency medical team and brought to a hospital for treatment.

Investigation revealed that the victims were on their way home to Tibungco, Davao City from Panabo City, and were passing through Sitio Lanles on a motorcycle when they were forced to stop upon encountering sacks full of garbage.

A group of unidentified men suddenly attacked the group.

According to Alvin Simbulan, one of the survivors of the attack, more or less 20 men attacked him and his companions.

It was dark, he said, so it was not easy to notice the assailants.

Police recovered broken bottles, slippers, and a kitchen knife believed to belong to the attackers.

Bunawan Deputy Station Commander Inspector Rey Roces said the police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Authorities had yet to determine a motive for the attack as of this writing.
