MANILA (UPDATE)- Classes in all levels, and work in government offices in Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Central Luzon are suspended on Monday, Jan. 13 because of the heightened activity of Taal Volcano.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Sunday ordered the suspension of classes in all levels and work in government offices in the three regions to ensure public safety.

Medialdea also said the private sector is "highly encouraged to suspend work for the safety of their employees."

The Supreme Court earlier announced the suspension of office work in Metro Manila courts on Monday.

Suspension of office work in affected areas outside Metro Manila will be at the discretion of respective executive judges.

House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, likewise, suspended office work at the House of Representatives on Monday.

Commissioner Aileen Lizada also announced the suspension of office work in all offices of the Civil Service Commission in Metro Manila and affected areas in Regions 3 and 4.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has raised alert level 4 over the volcano, which means a hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.
