MANILA—Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo surrendered three of his four registered firearms, police said Friday.

Baldo gave up his 12-gauge shotgun with 15 live ammunition, and 2 pistols with 3 magazines and 4 live ammunition, according to a police report.

Another letter for the confiscation of a rifle has been delivered, police said.

Tagged by police as the "mastermind" behind the murder of AKO Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe, Baldo is facing double murder charges and may also face administrative cases at the Office of the Ombudsman.

Baldo has asserted his innocence, saying he was being used as a "convenient scapegoat."

Batocabe was planning to challenge Baldo for the Daraga mayoralty in the midterm elections in May.

The lawmaker, 52, was distributing Christmas gifts in his hometown in Daraga, Albay on December 22 when he and his police escort were gunned down by at least 6 assailants.
