BUKIDNON – A newly-opened hanging bridge makes it easier and safer for students from two barangays in Bukidnon to go to school in Cagayan de Oro.

Students from Barangay Lingating in Baungon, Bukidnon will no longer have to use a makeshift bamboo raft to cross a river or climb a steep cliff and trek at least a kilometer to go to school in Barangay Bayanga in Cagayan de Oro.

Eleven-year-old Cheryl Baang and her sister, Mylene, used to take this route to school.

Cheryl recalled how her mother usually carries her sister when climbing the cliff to make sure that they arrive safely in school. But with the hanging bridge, she and her sister can go to school with their parents worrying less about their safety.

The hanging bridge was formally opened last December 23, 2016. This is after officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways ordered the construction of the hanging bridge after the plight of the students was featured in TV Patrol.

Now, principals from both schools are expecting an increase in student enrollment from Barangay Lingating in Baungon town all thanks to the hanging bridge.
