MANILA - The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Saturday started demolishing a luxurious "kubol" inside the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP).

The kubol belongs to convicted drug lord, Jaybee Sebastian, who is now detained at Building 14 of the NBP with fellow high-profile inmates.

An entertainment room, several beds, a canteen, garden and hut were found inside the kubol.

Sebastian's kubol was the fourth such structure torn down by the BuCor. Authorities expect to complete the demolition within a week.

The BuCor will set up container vans, which will be used as new dormitories for detainees, in place of the kubol.

In the 16th inspection under Oplan Galugad today, authorities also swooped down on the third quadrant of Building 3 where inmates of the "Barangay Bahala" gang are housed.

The raid yielded fewer contraband items including TV sets, DVD players, rugby, improvised bladed weapons and cellphones.

NBP Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. said more raids will follow until the country's largest detention facility is completely purged of illegal items.

Schwarzkopf added that there is an ongoing investigation on the alleged role of five jail guards in smuggling contraband inside NBP. -- Report from Kevin Manalo, ABS-CBN News
