National Artist for Film Ishmael Bernal was reinterred at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Saturday, September 14.

Bernal, a celebrated filmmaker known for his influential work in Philippine cinema was honored with a funeral vigil the previous night. Colleagues and fellow filmmakers gathered to pay their respects and share personal memories of the artist.

Rose Ledesma, Bernal’s sibling, reflected on her brother’s character beyond his public persona. 

“Last night, first-time ko nakita yung life niya, how he was as a person. Hindi lang as a movie director, hindi lang as a public figure, but how he was as a person na gusto niyang mag-improve ang mga lives of anybody that crosses his path,” she said.

The reinterment at the national cemetery underscores Bernal’s enduring impact on the Philippine film industry and his legacy as a visionary artist.
