MANILA - Charo Santos-Concio is considered as one of the most influential women in the Philippines. An acclaimed actress and host of one of the most enduring shows on local television, she also became the first female president of the largest media conglomerate in the country, ABS-CBN.

But even Santos-Concio has insecurities.

“Tao ka eh. You’re not God,” she admitted when asked about her fear of speaking in front of a crowd at her launch as one of the newest endorsers of skin care product Olay at the Shangri-La hotel in Taguig on Wednesday.

But Santos-Concio, clad in an elegant, bright red long gown, shed her fear as she told the audience that she did not allow stage fright to stop her from proving doubters wrong and achieving success in what she described as a male-dominated industry.

“There was this question if I could handle running a network and it was scary,” she revealed.

Santos-Concio added that she overcame the immense pressure through the support of her loved ones: “They encouraged me every step of the way.”

Santos-Concio said Filipina women should not be afraid of pursuing their dreams.

“I want to be able to tell them to live their dreams, follow your heart, do not be afraid, and do not start from the point of fear,” she said. "Always love yourself."

However, Santos-Concio reminded them, especially those who have already made waves in the competitive world, to always stay grounded. “Success should make us feel humble, success should keep our feet on the ground,” she said.
