MANILA -- There are a lot of changes coming up for California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) as it celebrates its 20th year in the Philippines.

CPK has quietly transitioned to new management which has a number of unconventional plans for the chain. Newly installed chief operating officer Rodel Gomez shared exciting developments like a renewed thrusts into food delivery, stand-alone kiosks, and opening the CPK brand to franchising.

Gomez also talked about plans to bring items and techniques from the kitchens in the US headquarters to Manila, like the keto-friendly cauliflower crusts that have become the rave in the United States.

The menu seems to have undergone a massive revamp, introducing new items and bringing back old favorites. While already having healthy entrees in the past, items with low sugar, low cholesterol, and low carb ingredients have been introduced like the Quorn croquettes.

Here are items to savor on your next trip to CPK:

Start off with CPK’s cheesy nachos. Made with four kinds of cheeses with ground pork and beef, it’s a loaded appetizer to get a meal going.

CPK has always been popular with health buffs because of its salads. New to the salad menu is the Golder Pear Salad with slices of pear and pomegranate seeds; and the California Harvest Salad, with baby kale, Napa cabbage, carrots, and steamed farrow seeds mixed with red seedless grapes, strawberries, watermelon cubes, and almonds in your choice of citrus or blueberry vinaigrette.

The Roasted Duck pizza and the Cheeseburger pizza are two of CPKs beloved pizza experiments that deserve to be back on the menu.

Few people know that the original 1998 CPK menu had a thin-crust pizza variant. The new menu brings back the Rustica Thin Crust pizzas that should satisfy pizza purists.

Quorn makes it way to the new menu as a healthy alternative to meat. This low calorie, low-fat, high-fiber, and high-protein meat substitute has the feel and texture of chicken. This is served as a topping on the Tropicale Quorn Pizza with pineapple, cheese and coconut cream sauce, or as Kid’s Quorn Nuggets with French fries.

Strong flavors are the common denominator with the new pasta dishes. The Cajun spiced Jambalaya pasta packs some heat, while tequila drinkers will love the Cuervo Gold spiked cream sauce of the Chicken Tequila Fettuccine.

CPK introduced rice bowls last year with quinoa as an add-on option. New this year are the Salisbury Steak Rice, Thai Calamari Rice, and Thai Coconut Curry Shrimp Rice.

The Banoffee Pie and the Nutella Cheesecake, new additions to the dessert section, round out the new CPK menu.

California Pizza Kitchen has branches at Alabang Town Center, W Global Center Bonifacio Global City, Century City Mall, and at Shangri-La Plaza East Wing.
