MANILA - Philippine bet Catriona Gray finished in the top 5 of the Miss World 2016 held at the Theater at MGM National Harbor in Maryland, USA on Monday.

Miss Puerto Rico was crowned as the new winner, succeeding Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna from Spain.

Contestants from Dominican Republic and Indonesia finished second and third place, respectively.

During the question and answer portion, Lalaguna asked Gray about which qualities does she think should the next Miss World winner possess.

For her answer, Gray responded: “I think first of all it takes bravery. To be a Miss World is to carry a burning torch. It is like action carried out by one to illuminate the lives of many. I would dedicate my whole self, my love for the arts and my voice to trying to uplift, empower and educate people. It would be my greatest honor and duty to hold this torch high enough so that all the world could feel and see its light.”

Gray joined the beauty pageant in the hopes of bringing home the second Miss World title for the Philippines.

The country’s first and only Miss World titleholder is Megan Young, who won in 2013.
