MANILA -- Since Raffles Makati opened in December 2012, plans were already in place for a French specialty restaurant to join the hotel’s other well-received food and beverage outlets like Spectrum and the iconic Long Bar.

After four long years, the hotel is finally opening the upscale brasserie-style restaurant Mireio (pronounced as mee-reyo) on Monday.

Unlike the other hotel outlets, which can be found on the ground level, Mireio is located in the ninth floor, which gives diners stunning views of the Makati skyline, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows.

The 77-seat restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, has a mix of casual yet elegant touches, like the backlit color-blocked bar and several commissioned artwork, including a large painting that tells the story of the 1859 poem by Frederic Mistral from which the restaurant got its name.

The views are even more breathtaking at the rooftop terrace, which opens daily from 5 p.m., just in time to catch the sunset as it gives way to the pretty night lights of the central business district and beyond. With high tables and comfortable outdoor seating, the terrace, which can accommodate 70 guests, is an ideal spot for pre-dinner cocktails or post-meal digestifs.

Heading Mireio’s kitchen is chef Nicolas Cegretin, who was born in Provence and has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in France and abroad. Prior to joining Raffles Makati, he was working at the Hotel La Mamounia, considered one of the iconic properties in Marrakech.
