MANILA — Janine Tugonon had her “Cobra Walk,” while Catriona Gray popularized the “Lava Walk.” Gazini Ganados, too, is hoping to make a mark with her signature “pasarela” when she sets foot on the Miss Universe stage.

With only a month away from the coronation night, the Philippines’ representative in the 2019 competition revealed the name of her own pageant walk.

“Phoenix Walk! I’ve been consistent with my phoenix gown, e,” Ganados told ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual.

When she was crowned Miss Universe-Philippines in June, Ganados wore a pink creation by Cary Santiago with the chest portion resembling wings — a signature detail of the ace designer.

Aside from the literal, dubbing her walk the “Phoenix” is also symbolic.

“It’s more than just a walk. It’s like every time I’m on stage, I feel like I’m soaring, I’m flying. Just like the phoenix, I’m soaring and I’m flying,” she said.

Asked whether she is hoping to succeed compatriot Catriona Gray as Miss Universe, Ganados said: “We will fight for the back-to-back. Lalaban tayo diyan, that’s what I always say!”
