Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez proudly wore a red gown that paid homage to the Philippine flag as she competed at the Reina Hispanoamericana 2018.

Yesterday wasn't a good day for Pinays competing in international beauty pageants.

Not only did Celeste Cortesi fall short of earning back-to-back Miss Earth titles for the country, but Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez also had to bow out early of the Reina Hispanoamericana 2018 held in Bolivia.

Alvarez failed to succeed last year's winner Teresita "Winwyn" Marquez, missing out on a place in the Top 10 of the competition, which was ultimately won by Venezuela's Nariman Battikha.

Following the coronation night, Marquez posted on her Instagram Stories a photo of her and Alvarez hugging, telling her fellow Pinay beauty queen: "So proud of you."

Alvarez was seen wearing the same stunning red gown that paid homage to the Philippine flag, designed by Benj Leguiab IV, which she donned for the contest's evening gown round.

Alvarez is the daughter of actress Almira Muhlach and former PBA star Bong Alvarez.

The Philippines will be hoping for more favorable results in Miss International (in Tokyo, November 9), Miss World (in China, December 8), and Miss Universe (in Thailand, December 17).
