MANILA -- An Iranian beauty queen was arrested following an Interpol red notice against her, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Sunday.

The red notice against Bahare Zare Bahari was based on a criminal case for assault, which allegedly happened in the Philippines, filed against her in Iran by a fellow Iranian.

Bahari remains under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and could not be sent back to Iran as she has a pending application for asylum, according to DOJ spokesperson Undersecretary Markk Perete.
