MANILA -- Three years after leaving showbiz to focus on building her own family, Nikki Gil is back in the limelight.

Gil was introduced on Monday as the female lead in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” one of the offerings of Repertory Philippines for its 2020 season.

She will take on the role of Julie Jordan opposite Gian Magdangal as Billy Bigelow in the award-winning musical about love, forgiveness, and redemption.

Directed by Toff de Venecia, “Carousel” will be staged from May 1 to 24 next year.

“This is my first Repertory production,” Gil said shortly after giving members of the media a preview of her performance in “Carousel.”

“It’s always been a dream,” she continued. “I’m very honored to have been invited to do such an important musical, and to be surrounded by such amazing talent is something that my soul has been hungry for, for the last few years. It’s been a while and I’m very excited, so we’ll see you all in May.”

A singer, actress, and host, Gil left her showbiz career in 2016 after tying the knot with businessman BJ Albert. They have a son named Finn.

Fans have since been getting glimpses of her personal life via her social media posts.

“When I semi-retired after getting married, I knew that I would eventually find my way back into this stage because I just love it so much. I love theater and I knew that it was something that I really cannot give up completely,” Gil told ABS-CBN News.

“And when the right material came my way I realized… I’ve adjusted to motherhood enough and diving in [back to theater] was just perfect.”
