Cecilio Asuncion, one of the show's coaches, said they are looking to redefine the role of beauty queens in an era of female empowerment and gender equality.

"We have a very holistic approach on how we train women. We really try not to create pageant patties and we want them to find their own voice," he said.

"There’s still that stigma of pageants being just about the glamour but a lot of people now, I feel, are realizing there are more to the women who joined the pageants," she said.

"It’s not always about what you look on the outside or if you’re even the most perfect one. It’s better to be perfectly imperfect," Dimaranan said.
