MANILA – Ever wondered how an artwork worth millions of pesos is sold here in Manila?
Salcedo Auctions gave the public a glimpse of what it calls “the year’s most important art sale” through a video posted on its Facebook page on Thursday.
Held at The Peninsula Manila in Makati City last September 22, the auction was for a boceto of Juan Luna’s renowned “Spoliarium.”
It was sold for a whopping P63 million, with the final price of P73,584,000 inclusive of buyer’s premium and taxes.
The “Spoliarium” boceto was bought by a phone bidder represented by Salcedo Auctions director Ramon E.S. Lerma, beating a “high-profile couple well-known in Philippine business and social circles.”
Bidding for the artwork started at P25 million.
