MANILA – Just like last year, Bantay Bata 163 is the beneficiary of the 2019 ABS-CBN Ball, an annual gathering of Kapamilya stars.
And Bantay Bata 163 program director Jing Castañeda-Velasco has nothing but gratitude as the event will greatly help in their efforts to create a safe and nurturing environment for children.
In an interview with ABS-CBN Entertainment, Castañeda-Velasco noted that proceeds from last year’s ABS-CBN Ball allowed Bantay Bata 163 to reopen Children’s Village in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
But more importantly, she said the grand Kapamilya event greatly raised awareness about their advocacy.
“More than the money, it’s really the awareness, the advocacy that’s given a spotlight on, which is really important,” she said.
She went on: “Of course pera importante ‘yan kasi di naman kami aandar kung walang pera. Pero ‘yong pera, marami kang pwedeng kuhanan, maraming donors. Pero ‘yong media mileage, network lang makakabigay non. Kaya sobra kaming grateful na for the publicity generated by the Ball last year, and again by the Ball this year, because it constantly reminds people that Bantay Bata is there and what Bantay Bata does, and what Bantay Bata has done.”
“So it reminds people that if you need help, there’s Bantay Bata you can go to for your children. But if you also want to help, there’s Bantay Bata that can serve as your bridge if you’re looking for children who deserve to be helped, who deserve a second chance, who deserve to be given hope.”
Castañeda-Velasco went on to emphasize the role of Kapamilya stars, particularly those with huge fan bases, in spreading the word about Bantay Bata 163.
“I-tweet lang nila, i-hashtag lang nila, sabihin lang nila na, ‘I’m going to ABS-CBN Ball. Bantay Bata [is the] beneficiary,’ malaking bagay na ‘yon,” she said.
This year, all proceeds from the ABS-CBN Ball will go to Bantay Bata 163’s Bantay Edukasyon project.
