It's a bittersweet moment for Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina as she prepares to bid farewell to her crown.

On Saturday, the beauty queen, who finished in the top 6 of the Miss Universe pageant in Manila last year, recalled on Instagram her journey as title-holder, and shared her advice with the Binibining Pilipinas candidates.

"Passing on my crown tomorrow and I will never forget what the Universe taught me," she wrote. "Thank you my fellow Filipinos for choosing me to be your representative and be part of the historical event, the Miss Universe 2016. It was a wonderful journey that I will treasure forever."

She added: "To all the 40 candidates, this is your chance to give it all. Take pride and have faith in how far you can go. The best advice? SMILE SMILE AND SMILE".

Medina will be present at the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 pageant on Sunday to be held at Smart Araneta Coliseum. It will be aired on ABS-CBN as part of "Sunday's Best."
