MANILA – Hale frontman Champ Lui Pio and his brother Chino are among the many people who fell in love with Siargao, which is considered the surfing capital of the country.

According to Lui Pio, his love story with the island started in 2017, when director Paul Soriano borrowed Hale’s song “Alon” for the official track of the movie “Siargao” starring Jericho Rosales.

He and his bandmates flew to Siargao to film promotional materials for the movie, and the rest was history.

“Along the way, I met some locals. At first, they were trying to sell me land… Sabi ko, ‘Parang gusto ko ata more of business. Kung may maisip ka, let me know,’” he recalled.

Lui Pio described Alpas as “very Filipino, very native,” with the hostel showcasing natural materials.

Rates, as reported by Pep.ph, start at P575 for a bunk-bed in an 8-person dormitory, while a room costs P3,450 a night.
